The McAllen Kids Marathon is a collaboration between McAllen ISD, City of McAllen and several public and private entities that are committed to teaching healthy living habits to the children of the Rio Grande Valley.
THE CHALLENGE
The challenge is for children to run the equivalent of a marathon (26.2 miles) over a four-month period to get into the habit of daily exercise. For the past seven years, we celebrated the McAllen Kids Marathon Kickoff with a pep rally. Be ready to make the commitment on October 1, 2021. Event is open to PreK-8th grade students from McAllen ISD and surrounding districts. We are currently securing sponsors to provide medals and t-shirts. The Final Mile of marathon is scheduled for January 2022.
HONOR SYSTEM & COST
During the next several weeks, students log their miles when they perform a physical activity (play, run, walk, dance or a movement activity). Every participant must take the honor oath until we celebrate the Final Mile on January 2022 — the day before the annual McAllen Marathon Scott Crane Memorial Virtual Run. NOTE: It’s all FREE to PreK-8th grade students.
WAIVER
As parent of child(s) participating in the McAllen Kids Marathon, I take fully responsibility for all participation in the McAllen Kids Marathon (Kickoff and Final Mile) events. I should not enter my child(s) unless my child(s) is medically able and properly trained. I assume all risks associated with participation in this event including, but not limited to: falls, contact with other participants, the effects of weather, including high heat and/or humidity, traffic and conditions of the road, in my home, etc. I accept all risks being known and accepted by me.
I certify my agreement and understand my child(s) submission of registration form will serve as my signature (registrant under the 15 years of age) or parent/legal guardian of minor, incapacitated, or mentally challenged person. Having read this waiver, I hereby waive and release to all representatives from McAllen ISD, the City of McAllen and all parties associated with event.
When my child(s) electronic registration form is submitted, I understand this Waiver and Release and agree that a copy is authentic and admissible as evidence in any future dispute or proceedings. If my child(s) do not follow all the rules of this event, I understand removal from participation is a possibility. I give my full permission to this event and their sponsors and corporate sponsors to use any photographs, videotapes or other recordings of child(s) that are made during the course of this event.
